Description

A Gold and epoxied shield-shaped device 1 1/4inch (3.18cm) high overall blazoned as follows: Vert, a pile inverted Sable, bearing a watchmans lantern Or, superimposed upon the pile and issuant from base a demi-halberd and demi-key in saltire of the third and throughout, halberd bladehead and wards upward, in chief a warriors helm Or plumed Gules, all within a bordure of the first. Attached below the device, a Black scroll inscribed PROTECT WITH HONOR in Gold



Symbolism

Green and gold (yellow) are the colors traditionally associated with Military Police units The helmet refers to Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war, and is also seen on the California state seal The plume color symbolizes courage The diagonally crossed key and halberd, and lantern are all tools of the watchman, referring to the detention capabilities of the 143rd Military Police Battalion
